The Do's of Parking Lot Aftercare
  • Provide the New Surface with Time to Cure - Believe it or not, it takes new asphalt surfaces roughly a full year to properly cure. While you can obviously utilize your lot throughout this period, you may choose to limit the weight of vehicles permitted to drive on the uncured surface.
  • Clean Oil & Fuel Spills as Soon as Possible - Oil and fuel spills can cause widespread damage to fresh asphalt, so it's imperative that you clean up these substances in prompt and efficient fashion. We recommend that you absorb as much of the spilled fluid as possible, then scrub the area with a commercial degreaser.
  • Implement a Durable Sealcoat - Once your asphalt surface has fully cured, you should implement a sealcoat atop your parking lot. Modern sealcoating materials will stop moisture from invading your asphalt surface.
The Don'ts of Parking Lot Aftercare
  • Stay Off the Surface for a Full Day - Be sure to stay off your new asphalt surface for 24 hours. If you jump the gun, it's only a matter of time before your parking lot begins to exhibit ruts and dips.
  • Eliminate the Threat of Weeds - Under no circumstances should you allow plants and weeds to encroach on the edges of your newly-paved surface. Unchecked roots may eventually create bumps and cracks throughout your new lot.
  • Keep Your Speed Down - Resist the urge to step on the pedal as you drive on your freshly-laid asphalt. We recommend that you take your time, and enter your new parking lot in a measured manner to avoid scarring or damaging the asphalt.
